Schools must meet specific requirements designed to support the unique needs facing military students and families. One requirement to qualify for the Mississippi Military Star School Program designation is that a school counselor, teacher, principal, or assistant principal who serves as the School Military Point of Contact (SMPOC) complete the MIC3 Compact Training. SMPOCs must choose from one of two types of training below based upon the school’s application status (NEW Applicant OR Re-certifying).
First Time Applications
If your school is applying for the Military Star School Program for the first time, the SMPOC must attend the Compact 101 Training. Individuals can register for the Compact 101 Training session utilizing one of the three opportunities outlined in the First Time Applicants section.
Recertification Applications
MIC3 is providing Mississippi schools that are re-applying in 2026 to maintain Military Star School status a hybrid version of the Compact 101 Training, which Mississippi’s Military Star School Program requires, and the Compact 201 Training. This session will build on the Compact 101 Training the School Military Point of Contact (SMPOC) received when they applied for the Military Star School designation in 2024. Returning SMPOCs must register for one of the trainings provided in the Recertification Applicants section. The information provided during the training sessions will be the same, so SMPOCs will only need to attend one training session.
Please contact Lindsey Dablow at MIC3 if you have any questions regarding this training. She can be contacted via email at ldablow@csg.org or by calling (859) 244-8067.
First Time Applicants
MIC3 Compact 101 Training is for schools seeking Military Star School status for the first time OR if the School Military Point of Contact (SMPOC) has changed since the initial application. Applicants should submit a copy of the MIC3 Compact 101 Training certificate as part of their application to become a Military Star School. The SMPOC has three ways they can complete the Compact 101 Training.
The Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) offers –
1. MIC3 (General) – Virtual monthly Compact 101 Training sessions facilitated throughout the year. To register, go to https://mic3.net/events-calendar/.
2. MIC3Training.net – The Commission’s online training portal offers the Compact 101 Training course in 10 self-paced modules. All 10 modules do not need to be completed at the same time. Users can pick up where they left off as the system saves their information.
3. Mississippi Department of Education Sponsored – MDE has scheduled five (5) one-hour virtual sessions with MIC3 to allow first-time applicants to complete this requirement for the Military Star School Program.

Recertification Applicants
MIC3 Compact 101/201 Training is for returning SMPOCs and schools seeking recertification of their Military Star School status after two years. This training will consist of a hybrid version of Compact 101 and the Compact 201 training, which is an interactive session focused on discussing case studies, compact gray areas, and best practices. Applicants should submit a copy of the MIC3 Compact 201 Training certificate as part of their application to become a Military Star School.
The Mississippi Department of Education sponsored five (5) one-hour virtual sessions with MIc3’s national office to allow school’s seeking recertification the opportunity to complete the requirement. Returning SMPOCs must register for one of the trainings provided below. The information provided during the training sessions will be the same, so SMPOCs will only need to attend one of the training sessions listed below.
